Bear Bottom Finder (Google Trends)
Capitulation search basket ('bitcoin is dead', 'bitcoin crash', 'is crypto dead', 'mt gox'). Generational bottoms historically coincide with peaks in this basket — when everyone searches 'bitcoin is dead', it usually isn't.
What is it?
Multi-line of 4 capitulation-vocabulary queries : 'is crypto dead', 'bitcoin is dead', 'bitcoin crash', 'mt gox'. When mass searches for these terms peak simultaneously, retail capitulation is exhausting itself — historically a contrarian buy condition.
How to read
Each line = one capitulation query 0-100 normalized. Above 75 (green zone) historically marks generational accumulation opportunity. Sustained sub-15 readings = bear market not yet capitulated — patience required.
Key zones
Above 75 = Extreme capitulation (historic accumulation zone — every prior reading at this level preceded a 5-10x rally within 24 months). 30-75 = Bear sentiment in play, no extreme yet. Below 15 = Capitulation absent or already exhausted — re-check via the retail euphoria index.
What to observe
Watch for quadruple-confluence : when all 4 queries spike above 60 simultaneously, capitulation is broad-based (not isolated to one event). Single-query spikes can be event-driven (e.g., a hack) without broad cycle implications.
Historical context
'Bitcoin is dead' has historically reached its highest readings around major industry crises — the February 2014 Mt Gox collapse, the December 2018 capitulation low, and the November 2022 FTX collapse. Each high reading preceded multi-year recoveries (5-10× rallies within 18 months). The 'bitcoin is dead' meme has been publicly declared hundreds of times without bitcoin ever actually disappearing.
Expert notes
Capitulation searches are coincident-to-lagging vs price : the queries peak in the same week as the price low, sometimes within 1-2 weeks after. Combined with high open-interest funding rates (negative) and on-chain SOPR sub-1 readings, the confluence becomes a high-conviction generational bottom indicator.
Common mistakes to avoid
A single 'bitcoin crash' search spike does NOT mean the bottom is in — it just means the crash is happening. Wait for the spike to fully form and start declining (typically 4-8 weeks after the price low) before treating the bottom as confirmed.
