Realized PnL Momentum STH
Realized PnL Momentum restricted to the short-term holder cohort. Sharp swings here often precede broader regime shifts as STH activity reacts first to price extension or capitulation.
What is it?
Cohort variant of Realized PnL Momentum: 30-day gradient of USD Net PnL for Short-Term Holders, smoothed over 7 days. Isolates the acceleration or deceleration of speculator-side profit-loss flows (UTXOs < ~155 days). More volatile and more reactive than the global version, it indicates rapid speculative capital rotations before conviction holders flip.
How to read
Read this momentum as a short-term indicator: STH pivots are frequent and indicate speculative rotations. To interpret correctly, cross-reference with the global Realized PnL Momentum and LTH version — an isolated STH rotation is often a false reading, but an STH rotation confirmed by the global version is a regime-flip indicator.
Key zones
Zero line: short-term inflection. Positive zone: speculators accelerating profit-taking (typical parabolic extension). Negative zone: speculators accelerating capitulation (typical event-driven flush). STH ranges are far more volatile than LTH or global ranges.
What to observe
Watch STH vs LTH divergences: a persistently positive STH momentum while LTH momentum stays neutral = late speculative extension phase (pre-top marker). An extreme negative STH momentum while LTH momentum stays positive = short-term flush without structural capitulation (potential local-bottom marker).
Historical context
STH momentum pivots have historically preceded major speculative rotations by 2-6 weeks. Particularly reactive to ETF events, major liquidations, and the flash flushes typical of post-2024 microstructure.
Expert notes
STH momentum is the most reactive indicator of the family — it indicates rapid rotations but with a high false-reading frequency. Use as a timing indicator, not as a regime indicator. For structural reads, prefer the LTH or global version.
Common mistakes to avoid
An isolated STH momentum pivot is not a reversal indicator — always confirm with the global or LTH version. STH pivots can be event-driven artifacts (liquidation flushes, panics) that do not translate into macro regime flips.
