Google Trends attention rotation across Ethereum + Solana + Cardano + Dogecoin + memecoin + altcoin. Each phase historically lasts 30-90 days. Ethereum overlay added to surface BTC→ETH dominance flip indicates.
What is it?
Altseasons rotate : retail searches Solana one month, Cardano the next, Avalanche the month after. This heatmap encodes Google Trends search interest (0-100) for 5 major altcoin narratives across time. Color intensity at cell (date × altcoin) = search interest. Reading the heatmap left-to-right reveals which altcoin captured retail mindshare in each window. Hot spots = momentum / FOMO ; cold zones = forgotten narratives.
How to read
Y-axis : 5 altcoins (Solana, Cardano, Polkadot, Avalanche, Polygon). X-axis : monthly timeline 2017+. Color scale : gray (cold, search interest < 20) → yellow → orange → red (hot, search interest > 80). Bright row = altcoin in retail focus for that month. Multiple bright rows simultaneously = broad altseason. One bright row alone = narrative concentration (concentrated FOMO).
Key zones
All 5 cold (search < 30) = retail dormant on altcoins, BTC-dominant phase. 1-2 hot = concentrated narrative (early altseason). 3+ hot = broad altseason. All 5 hot simultaneously = peak euphoria, top-adjacent. Cold rows surrounded by hot = narrative death (e.g., Polkadot 2024 surrounded by hot Solana / Avalanche = Polkadot left the conversation).
What to observe
Watch the rotation cadence : healthy altseason has 4-8 week rotations between altcoins. Compressed rotation (< 2 weeks per altcoin) = late-cycle FOMO chaos, top warning. Stalled rotation (one altcoin hot for 6+ months alone) = narrative concentration without broadening, often a single-narrative top (e.g., Solana 2024).
Historical context
Q1 2018 saw Cardano + Polkadot + early Polygon (then Matic) heatmap explode. Q1 2021 saw Solana / Cardano / Polkadot all bright simultaneously. Q3-Q4 2021 saw Avalanche / Polygon / Solana rotation. 2022-2023 saw 95% cold heatmap (deep bear). 2024 saw Solana dominate alone (concentration) with sporadic Avalanche / Polygon spikes.

The 5-altcoin basket (SOL/ADA/DOT/AVAX/MATIC) is editorial. Cycle 2025-2029 may need rotation : Sui, Aptos, Near, Toncoin are emerging. Common mistakes to avoid
Hot heatmap = profitable altcoin season ❌. The heatmap measures search interest, not price action. An altcoin can be hot in search and dump in price (over-extended FOMO). Validate hot rows with actual price + on-chain TVL data. Heatmap is a leading mainstream-attention proxy, not a bullish reading.
