Tech-Savvy Curiosity Ratio (Wikipedia)
Ratio of advanced tech article pageviews (Merkle tree, Zero-knowledge proof, Smart contract) vs retail-friendly (Bitcoin, Cryptocurrency) — measures who is reading what.
What is it?
Crypto attention is not absolute — it competes with attention for AI, smartphones, social media, gaming. This chart computes the ratio : (Bitcoin pageviews) / (average pageviews on Artificial Intelligence + iPhone + Facebook articles). A rising ratio = crypto is winning mindshare relative to other tech narratives. A falling ratio = crypto is losing relative tech attention (e.g., during the AI hype wave 2023-2024, this ratio collapsed even as Bitcoin price recovered).
How to read
Single line : Bitcoin curiosity as a fraction of broader tech curiosity. Y-axis = ratio (0.1 = Bitcoin pageviews are 10% of average tech pageviews ; 1.0 = parity ; > 1.0 = Bitcoin dominant). Rising ratio in bull cycles, collapsing in tech-narrative-rotation phases (e.g., AI capturing mindshare).
Key zones
Ratio > 1.0 = Bitcoin dominates tech narrative (rare, peak cycle phases). Ratio 0.3-1.0 = healthy crypto-tech share (normal bull). Ratio 0.1-0.3 = bear / consolidation. Ratio < 0.1 = AI / other tech narratives have captured most mindshare (2023 Q4 ChatGPT wave era).
What to observe
Ratio rising while Bitcoin price flat = curiosity returning ahead of price (early-cycle setup). Ratio collapsing while Bitcoin price rises = price rally is not capturing mainstream — possibly a less-broad rally. Sudden ratio collapse without crypto event = competing tech narrative absorbing attention (AI ChatGPT launch case).
Historical context
The ratio peaked December 2017 (~2.5, Bitcoin > tech average). Crashed to 0.05 mid-2019. Peaked again ~0.8 May 2021. Crashed to 0.04 late 2022. The November 2022 ChatGPT launch caused a sustained ratio decline through 2023-2024 (AI attention dominated). January 2024 ETF approval recovered the ratio above 0.3.
Expert notes
The 3-article tech denominator basket (AI / iPhone / Facebook) is Trinity-curated. Future iterations could rotate Facebook out for newer references (TikTok, ChatGPT specific article). This ratio is the cleanest measure of 'is crypto the tech story right now or not'. Use it to spot multi-quarter tech-narrative rotations (AI wave displacing crypto wave temporarily).
Common mistakes to avoid
Ratio collapse = crypto dying ❌. The ratio measures RELATIVE share — collapse can mean other tech is exploding (AI 2023) rather than crypto dying. Always cross-validate with absolute Bitcoin pageviews — if absolute is stable while ratio drops, it's a rotation, not a decline.
