ETF Cumulative Days Net Inflow Streak
Counter of consecutive days where the aggregate Bitcoin spot ETF complex experienced net positive flows. Resets to zero on any net negative day. Long streaks (≥10 days) historically coincide with sustained accumulation phases; reset days frequently mark short-term tops or news-driven redemption events.
What is it?
This counter tracks the number of consecutive trading days where the aggregate Bitcoin spot ETF complex experienced net positive flows. Each day with positive aggregate net flow increments the counter by one. Any net negative day resets the counter to zero. The streak length captures the sustained institutional accumulation regime: long streaks (≥10 days) historically coincide with strong fundamental buying phases; reset days frequently mark short-term tops or news-driven redemption events.
How to read
The horizontal axis is time. The vertical axis is the streak counter in days, displayed as a histogram. Each bar represents the daily streak length: bars rising consecutively indicate ongoing accumulation; sudden drops to zero indicate streak resets due to a single net outflow day. Horizontal threshold lines mark notable streak lengths (10 days = strong, 15 days = exceptional, 20 days = historically rare). The BTC overlay on the right axis can be toggled for cross-asset context — reset days often coincide with short-term price tops.
Key zones
• 0-2 days: routine variation, no sustained accumulation • 3-7 days: short streak, normal positive momentum • 8-14 days: strong streak, sustained accumulation phase • 15-19 days: exceptional streak, top 5% of historical distribution • 20+ days: historically rare streak, marks accumulation regime climax
What to observe
• Streaks reaching 10+ days as sustained accumulation phase confirmation • Streak resets on notable news days (regulatory announcements, exchange events, macro shocks) • Frequency of long streaks as cycle phase indicator — multiple 10+ day streaks within a quarter mark strong adoption regime • Symmetric streak length distribution between bull and bear regimes — bull regimes show longer average streaks • Confluence with TEHS and AUM growth — converging readings across multiple metrics confirm regime classification
Historical context
ETF inflow streak data is available since US launch in January 2024. Notable streaks include the post-launch initial accumulation phase of January-February 2024 (multiple 10+ day streaks coinciding with euphoric demand), the late 2024 institutional re-acceleration phase showing extended streaks correlating with cycle peak approach, and the 2025 cycle correction phase characterized by frequent resets and short streak lengths. The longest documented streak in this regime exceeded 19 consecutive days during the late 2024 phase, reflecting the unprecedented institutional onboarding velocity.
Expert notes
Streak length is sensitive to single-day events — even a long streak can reset on a single modest outflow day, reflecting the binary nature of the metric. Couple with absolute flow magnitude (Z-score) and TEHS for context: a short streak with consistently large daily inflows is more meaningful than a longer streak with marginal daily averages. The streak metric works best as a regime classifier rather than a magnitude proxy. Long streaks confirm sustained demand; short streaks suggest unstable or transitional regimes.
Common mistakes to avoid
Do not interpret a long streak as a tactical accumulation opportunity — institutional arbitrage already prices the regime. Do not confuse streak length with flow magnitude — a long streak does not imply large flows. Do not interpret streak resets as reversal indicators — single-day outflows can be noise. Do not extrapolate the 2024-2025 streak distribution to future regimes — methodology evolves with market maturation.
