ChatGPT Apps SDK

Set up Trinity Insights MCP in ChatGPT via the OpenAI Apps SDK with an MCP connector.

File location: Configuration via the ChatGPT interface (Settings → Connectors)

// 2. Fill in:
//    Name        : Trinity Insights
//    Endpoint    : https://mcp.trinityinsights.io/mcp
//    Auth        : Bearer YOUR_TRINITY_API_KEY
// 3. Enable in a conversation : @trinity-insights

Replace YOUR_TRINITY_API_KEY with the API key you will generate in the next step.

Setup steps

  1. Check eligibility
    The OpenAI Apps SDK requires ChatGPT Plus or Team. Check your plan in Settings → Account.
  2. Retrieve your Trinity API key
    Dashboard → Settings → API Keys MCP. Create a key dedicated to ChatGPT.
  3. Add the connector in ChatGPT
    ChatGPT → Settings → Connectors → Add Custom MCP. Provide Name (Trinity Insights), Endpoint (https://mcp.trinityinsights.io/mcp), and Auth header.
  4. Enable in a conversation
    In a new conversation, mention @trinity-insights or enable the connector from the tools menu.
  5. Test
    "@trinity-insights give me the current macro status." ChatGPT will call the trinity-macro-briefing prompt.

Notes

  • Custom MCP connectors in ChatGPT are only accessible to the user who created them (not shared at the workspace level).
  • The OpenAI Apps SDK supports Streamable HTTP transport natively.
